Idukki: Three workers died after entering a hotel’s waste tank for cleaning in Kattappana. The deceased were identified as Jayaraman, a native of Cumbum in Tamil Nadu, and Michael (also known as Selvan) and Sundara Pandian, both from Gudalur.
According to preliminary information, Michael was the first to enter the tank but did not return. Sundara Pandian then followed him inside, and later Jayaraman, the contractor, entered in an attempt to rescue both. When there was no response from any of them, it became evident that all three had become trapped inside the tank.
The Fire and Rescue team, along with police led by Kattappana Circle Inspector TC Murukan, recovered the three bodies from the tank. One victim was rushed to Kattappana Taluk Hospital, while the other two were taken to a private hospital. However, doctors confirmed that all three had died.
Relatives were informed, and police prepared an inquest before shifting the bodies to Idukki Medical College for postmortem examination. Lack of oxygen inside the tank is believed to have caused the tragedy, though police said a detailed investigation is required to ascertain the exact cause.
