Thrissur: A man sustained serious injuries after being attacked by his son at Muthrathikkara in Thrissur on Saturday. The incident happened around 1.30 pm at the rented residence of the assailant, Vishnu.
According to police, the injured man, identified as Shivan of Mekadan House, Muthrathikkara, had visited Vishnu along with his wife to discuss matters related to the house documents. During the conversation, Vishnu allegedly told them that he had destroyed the papers by throwing them into a well. The argument that followed quickly escalated, and in a fit of rage, Vishnu attacked his father with a machete inside the kitchen and again while chasing him outside.
Shivan suffered deep head and neck injuries and was rushed to Thrissur Medical College Hospital, where his condition remains critical. His wife and a relative managed to escape and alert neighbours, who in turn informed the police.
Soon after, police and fire force teams arrived at the scene. Vishnu, armed with sharp weapons, locked himself in the upper floor of the house and threatened to take his own life if anyone tried to enter. For over three hours, officials and locals attempted to break into the house through the windows and roof tiles, but Vishnu managed to evade capture by climbing down to a neighbouring house, continuing to threaten self-harm.
Around 5.30 pm, after prolonged negotiations, Vishnu finally surrendered with the help of local residents and was taken into police custody.
Neighbours told police that Vishnu had been living alone for some time and was estranged from his parents. He was said to engage frequently in rituals and occult practices at the house, raising concerns about his mental health. Police have shifted him to Thrissur Medical College Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Pudukad police said further legal action will follow after the Irinjalakuda Magistrate records Vishnu’s statement at the hospital.
