Thrissur: A man was found murdered and burnt inside a rented quarters at Chovannur near Kunnamkulam on Sunday evening. Police have taken into custody the accused, Sunny (61), a native of Cheruvathur, Marathancode, Chovannur, from Thrissur.
According to the police, the murder was the result of a dispute that arose during unnatural sex between the duo. The deceased, believed to be around 35 years old, has not yet been identified.
The charred body was discovered around 5.30 pm inside the quarters rented by Sunny. Police said the victim was first hacked to death and then set on fire. The house was locked from the outside when locals noticed smoke coming from inside. When the door was forced open, they found the body lying burnt inside the room.
Pieces of cloth were placed around the body and set on fire, suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence. Sunny was missing at the time of discovery.
Police later nabbed him from the Shakthan bus stand in Thrissur around 7.30 pm. Sunny, who works as a security staff at a textile shop in Thrissur, is an accused in two earlier murder cases. He has already served a jail term in one of them. The victims in his previous crimes were reportedly a migrant worker and a relative.
