KSRTC bus service faces competition from an unauthorized private bus operating on the Adur-Mangaluru route.

Adur: Complaints have emerged over an unauthorised private bus service that began operating just ahead of the newly launched KSRTC service on the Adur–Mangaluru route. The private bus, running between Mulleriya and Kumbala, departs barely five minutes before the KSRTC bus from Adur arrives at Mulleriya

This private service began operations after the KSRTC service was introduced. A conspiracy to cut into the revenue of the KSRTC service is being alleged behind the launch of the private bus service.

The KSRTC bus departs from Adoor at 6 A<M and reaches Mullery by 6.45 AM. KSRTC has complained that the private bus picks up passengers before the KSRTC bus arrives.

The regular Adur–Mangaluru KSRTC service, which had been operational for years, was suspended during the pandemic. It was resumed on October 5, much to the benefit of a large number of passengers, including students and patients who commute to Mangaluru from areas such as Dhelampady, Karadukkua and Muliyar.

The service recorded good revenue on its first day. But immediately afterward, the private bus service was launched.

KSRTC has alleged that the private bus does not have permission to operate during that time slot. A  complaint has been submitted to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Adur Police, requesting action against the unauthorised service.

Similar ploy in Kuttikkol–Kasargod route too

KSRTC faces a similar challenge on the Kuttikkol–Kasargod route. A private bus, authorised to operate directly from Pallanchi to Kasargod via Bethoorpara at around 7.45 AM, is taking an unauthorised detour through Kuttikkol to pick up passengers causing a setback to KSRTC.

This private bus runs just ahead of the KSRTC service from Kuttikkol to Kasargod and the detour is said to have resulted in a significant drop in KSRTC’s revenue.

“The private bus service from Mullery, operating just ahead of the Adoor–Mangaluru KSRTC bus, is unauthorised. The RTO must take action against this. Otherwise, we will launch a protest, including a march to the RTO office,”
