Wayanad: The National SC/ST Commission has sought a report from the state police on the death of a 17-year-old tribal youth who was found hanging in the toilet of the Kalpetta police station.
In a letter addressed to the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Wayanad District Police Chief, the commission directed them to appear before its office in New Delhi on October 16 and submit the report in person during the scheduled sitting.
Though the state government had ordered a Crime Branch probe into the allegations raised against the local police in connection with the incident, the investigation is not showing much progress.
Gokul, a 17-year-old tribal youth from Nellarachal near Ambalavayal, was found hanging from the roof of the toilet at the Kalpetta police station in the early hours of April 1. He had been taken into custody along with a tribal girl on March 31. While the girl was released as she was a minor, the boy, also under 18, was not released.
