Kasaragod: A nursing student who attempted suicide died after the car in which her brother was rushing her to the hospital overturned in Kasaragod district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mahima K C (19), daughter of the late K Babu and Vanaja K C, an anganwadi helper, of Bethurpara in Kuttikkol grama panchayat. Mahima was a second-year nursing student at Carewell Nursing College in Kasaragod.

She was found hanging in her room by her elder brother Mahesh K C, a pickup driver, said former Bethurpara ward member Manikandan K. "She was alive when he brought her down," he said.

Mahesh placed her in his uncle's car and sped towards a hospital in Kasaragod, said Manikandan. However, barely a kilometre from their house, he lost control of the car, which hit an electric post and overturned by the roadside.

Passersby rushed the siblings to CM Multi Speciality Hospital, Cherkala, where Mahima was declared dead.

"We don’t know whether the accident caused her death or if it was the result of the suicide attempt," said Manikandan. She reportedly left a note stating that no one should be held responsible for her death. Mahesh escaped with minor injuries.
