Class 9 girl dies after falling from Kollam’s Maruthimala hill

Kollam: A Class 9 student died after falling from a hill at the Maruthimala Eco Tourism Centre in Kollam on Friday. The deceased is Meenu, a native of Peringad in Adoor.

Her friend, Sivarna, who accompanied her to the hill, sustained serious injuries after falling from the hill. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kollam.

The accident occurred around 6.30 pm on Friday. According to the residents, they had seen the two girls walking toward a dangerous spot on the hill. Moments later, they found that both had fallen.

It is suspected that the girls may have gone there intending to jump from the hill.

Pooyappalli police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers said the two girls had visited the hill on earlier occasions as well.
