Mid-day meal program is facing a crisis in Kollangode due to rice shortages affecting school students.

Kollangode: The mid-day meal project for school students is in jeopardy as the schools haven’t received rice yet. The rice allotted for this month has not reached many schools in the district.

Although many schools in Kollangode subdistrict contacted the Maveli stores and Supplyco’s rice godowns in Chittoor for rice, they were told that there wasn’t enough supply. Rice was then temporarily collected from nearby schools to cook the mid-day meal. This is the situation in many subdistricts in the district.

The teachers had already informed the authorities about the severe shortage of rice in their schools. The authorities, meanwhile, have promised immediate action to ensure enough supply of rice in the schools. However, teachers complain that they didn’t get a proper reply as on when would they receive the rice.

The school authorities were hoping that the share of rice for the month of October would reach the schools before the 10th. So when they ran out of stock, they had to rely on other schools for rice.

Meanwhile, the authorities managing the mid-day meal program vow that there is no such crisis in the district.
