Thodupuzha: Two prominent spots in Thodupuzha town have become safety hazards for locals and visitors alike. A towering Gulmohar tree at the entrance of Thommankuthu waterfalls and a rusting iron arch on Idukki Road are now posing serious risks due to neglect and structural damage. Residents are calling for immediate action to prevent potential accidents.
Gulmohar tree at Thommankuthu
The Gulmohar tree, which stands at the entrance to the Thommankuthu waterfalls, is posing a serious threat to the visitors here. Vehicles arriving at the spot are parked close to the tree, which also endangers nearby buildings.
Local residents have urged the KSTP authorities to take immediate action and cut down the tree. They attribute the delay to the reluctance of KSTP officials to act promptly.
The iron arch on Idukki Road
In Thodupuzha town, the iron arch on Idukki Road near a private hospital, which supports the direction boards of the PWD, is on the verge of collapse. Both poles of the arch are heavily rusted and damaged. The direction boards pointing to Idukki and Moolamattam are mounted on top of this arch, but the iron rods connecting them to the pillars have rotted.
Located on a busy road used by numerous motorists and pedestrians, the structural weakness of the arch has become a serious safety concern.
