Muttom: Demand to develop a sports turf on the long-unused MVIP (Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project)  land is gaining momentum. Residents have proposed installing turf on the vacant property between the under-construction Crime Branch office and the Muttom Village Office along the Muttom–Moolamattom road.

Locals have urged authorities to include the site under the government’s 'One Playground in One Panchayat' project. The land, which has remained barren for decades, could be levelled and filled with soil to create a playground at a relatively low cost, they say.

At present, residents of Muttom, Moolamattom, Kudayathoor, Karingunnam, and Melukavu depend on private facilities, which charge between ₹1,200 and ₹1,400 per hour. If the panchayat takes over the land and builds a turf, it would encourage sports enthusiasts in the area and also generate revenue for the panchayat.

The Muttom Panchayat has sent a letter to the District Collector regarding the proposal. If the decision from the Collector and the government is favourable, a playground could soon become a reality in Muttom.
