Elavancherry: Officers and experts from the Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission is in Elavancherry to study the incredibly successful vegetable farming model here.

The group that comprised chairman M Kothanda Reddy, members Rama Reddy, Gopal Reddy, Gadugu Gangadhar, Marikanti Bhavani, member secretary Gopal, Horti and Sericulture officer K Suresh, B Harivenkita Prasad and J Sravani visited the VFPCK farmers’ samitis and markets at Elavancherry and Vithanassery.

They visited the vegetable farmlands owned by R Padmanabhan, MK Suresh, AV Narayanan, AV Manikandan, R Shivadas, KM Satheesh, Shalini and M Vijayakumar in Vadavannur and Umanadi and asked about the various agriculture methods.

Meanwhile, officers from the state agriculture department including deputy director VK Bhagyalatha, VFPCK project director Sajan Andrews, district manager Bindumol Mathew, deputy directors P Uma, Meena Shyam, Abdul Samad, assistant manager Chandni, agriculture officers Arunima, Rani Unnithan and Gautham accompanied the Telangana delegation to the farmlands.

Drip irrigation, plastic mulching and permanent canopy are some of the methods adopted by the farmers here. The delegation from Telangana asked the farmers about these methods and their efficacy.
