Munambu Kadavu bridge is facing imminent danger due to widening cracks and crumbling surfaces.
Irikkoor: Travel across the Munambu Kadavu bridge here has become increasingly precarious, with widening cracks and crumbling surfaces putting both pedestrians and vehicles at risk.Despite the bridge lying in ruins, no steps are being initiated for its renovation.
The tarring on most parts of the bridge has worn away, forming wide potholes while cracks, which can even trap the legs of pedestrians, have been developed between three of is spans. Sections at both the Nambram end and the middle of the bridge have suffered damage over stretches of about one and a half meters each. Vehicles, in an attempt to avoid these damaged portions, often veer into the opposite lane, increasing the risk of accidents . The risk of accidents posed by this practice is particularly acute for two-wheelers.
Over ten buses, including services from Kannur and Thaliparambu, along with hundreds of other vehicles, pass over the bridge daily. Although ornamental lights installed on the bridge were inaugurated two weeks ago, no concrete steps have yet been initiated to repair the bridge.
