The Kerala government has declared district-wise public holidays for polling days of the upcoming local body elections. As per the government order, all public offices and educational institutions will remain closed, while commercial establishments must provide paid holidays to employees.

Polling day holidays:
December 9: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam
December 11: Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

Government employees who are voters in any of these constituencies but work in districts where a holiday is not declared may apply for Other Duty status or special leave available in SPARK (excluding casual, earned or commuted leave). They must provide proof to their controlling officer confirming their voter status.

The order also specifies that under Section 145A of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994, and Section 202A of the Kerala Municipality Act, 1994, employees in private, commercial, industrial and similar establishments who are eligible to vote must be granted a paid holiday on polling day. No wage deduction is permissible for granting this holiday.
