Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged employers across the state to provide paid leave to workers from Kerala so they can take part in the local body elections scheduled in Kerala on December 9 and 11.
Shivakumar, who also heads the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, noted on Wednesday that a significant number of people from Kerala are employed in Karnataka and stressed the importance of helping them exercise their democratic right.
He appealed to all companies, educational institutions, commercial establishments, hotels, contractors, builders, and shop owners to offer at least three days of paid leave to eligible voters, stating that it would enable them to travel home and vote “without incurring a financial loss”.
Shivakumar also called for the full cooperation of employers to ensure Kerala workers can participate meaningfully in the upcoming elections.
