Idukki: Large-scale illegal rock quarrying in Upputhodu, carried out in violation of a stop memo issued by the Village Officer, was halted after Idukki Sub Collector Anoop Garg personally intervened at the site.

A tractor and other equipment used for the quarrying were seized by the official team. The vehicles are owned by a resident of Mariyapuram. Despite the Village Officer having earlier issued a stop memo prohibiting quarrying at the location, the order was allegedly defied and operations continued.

Officials found that large quantities of earth had been removed and rocks blasted without adhering to safety norms. The inspection also revealed that explosives were used in a residential area without precautionary measures, and the presence of explosive materials at the site was confirmed.

The seized vehicles will be handed over to the police for further proceedings. The Sub Collector directed strict legal action against the owner for violating government orders and carrying out illegal quarrying using explosives.
