Hello
The Kadanad grama panchayat near Pala in Kottayam district has opposed a private party’s move to open a quarry near the biodiversity-rich Perumkunnu Hills.
The quarry collapsed following a mudslide.
The explosives cache includes 1125 gelatin sticks, 4000 detonators, and 1620 safety fuses, said police.
It is suspected that the sticks were dumped by the quarry mafia suspecting raids.
The mining operations on 2.5 acres of the hill resumed on Monday with workers and machines reaching the site in the wee hours of the day.
The strike will have the participation of 630 quarry and 1,200 crusher units.
Debris from Balal's Muthappan Mala hilltop has blocked a road, sources of water, and flooded private properties.
The accused man and woman had obtained the money from the quarry owner promising him a license to renew operations.
Kerala Quarry and Crusher Coordination Committee started the strike on Monday
The Supreme Court was considering a petition filed by quarry owners against the order of the Kerala High Court that land assigned under the Land Assignment Rules (1964) for agriculture, housing and such other purposes should be used only for the stated purposes.
