Retired England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has kicked off a social media debate by claiming that bowling was way better 25 years ago.

On Monday, Pietersen, 45, followed up on his post from two days ago, in which he said "batting these days is way easier than 20/25 years ago! Probably twice as hard back then".

Even as several fans engaged with his post, listing a series of names, Pietersen seems unconvinced.

"I see 4.6M people viewed my tweet about bowling being way better 25 years ago. I gave a list of 22 bowlers from back then. I’m still waiting for someone to name me 10 bowlers who are bowling at present who’d make that list please?"

Pietersen's initial list comprised a host of yesteryear stars, including India's Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Harbhajan Singh. Pakistani greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Daniel Vettori, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose were some of the former bowling stars listed by Pietersen.
