Pathanamthitta: The body of one migrant worker was recovered, while another still remains trapped after a granite quarry collapsed in Konni on Monday. The deceased is Mahadev, native of Odisha while Ajay Rai from Bihar is still missing.
The rescue operations have been halted for the night and will resume at 7 am on Tuesday, said an officer from Konni Police Station. He added that the conditions at the quarry make it hard for the rescue operations to continue throughout the night.
The accident occurred while the workers were cutting a path to move further into the quarry. "Although the fire and rescue force and police officers reached the site promptly, the possibility of further collapse posed a challenge and delayed the rescue,” said another officer at the Konni Police Station.
A special task force of the Kerala Fire and Rescue Services has left for Pathanamthitta to assist in the rescue operations.
