Upputhara: A man was found dead by the roadside on Friday with severe injuries to his face and head. The deceased is Robin (45), a native of Pulikkamandapam, Nearappelkada, Marykulam in Ayyappankovil.
Sojan (42), of Chappath Ottamaram Idathiparambil — a neighbour and friend of the deceased — has been taken into custody in connection with the suspected murder, Upputhara police said.
Robin’s body was found on Friday morning near the suspect’s rented house.
According to police, Robin’s cousin arrived at the spot in the morning to call him for work after repeated phone calls went unanswered and found him dead by the roadside. The body bore serious injuries to the face and head, indicating an attack with a stone.
Robin was living with his father.
Police said Robin and Sojan were close friends who frequently consumed alcohol together. On Christmas Day, the two were reportedly intoxicated and later had a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical clash. Police suspect the quarrel led to the murder.
After the incident, Sojan allegedly returned home and went to bed.
A police team, including a dog squad and fingerprint experts, arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Police said Sojan’s arrest would be recorded soon.
