Kundar: A scenic viewpoint inspired by the Raja’s Seat in Madikeri is coming up at Mayilamkotta in Kundar, a hill known for its misty mornings and gentle breezes. The cashew café-cum-viewpoint is being built on land belonging to the Agriculture Department’s Cashew Progeny Orchard under the Rashtreeya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
The scenic hill is located just half a kilometre from Kundar along the Cherkkala–Jalsur route. Visitors can reach the site by ascending a steep incline that begins just beyond the gate of the Cashew Progeny Orchard. The path is lined with ripe coconut and mango trees, welcoming the visitors. Once the marigold saplings bloom, the hill will become even more picturesque.
The true charm of Mayilamkotta can only be experienced at the hilltop. The gentle breeze that flows even at noon, along with the misty mornings and evenings, captivates every visitor. From the summit, one can enjoy panoramic views in all directions, including the winding Payaswini river and the surrounding mountain ranges.
Despite its historical significance, the site’s scenic beauty has remained largely unnoticed. Only a handful of visitors ventured here, as the area has primarily served as a cashew plantation managed by the Agriculture Department.
In the first phase, seating arrangements and selfie points will be constructed alongside the cashew café-cum-viewpoint. The work is expected to be completed within a month, after which the site will be opened to visitors.
Authorities aim to transform Mayilamkotta into a prominent tourist destination in the near future. The project is being overseen by Cashew Tree Agriculture Development Officer Manu Narendran and Farm Officer N Sooraj. Plans also include setting up visitor tents, allowing guests to relax while enjoying refreshing tender coconut water and freshly pressed cashew nut juice.
