Ayci is considered to be close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an ally of Pakistan.
RSS-affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch had last Friday said that the government should not give clearance to the appointment of Ayci "keeping in view national security".

Those arrested include BJP's Thalassery Block president and Municipal Councillor K Lijesh. The police have now confirmed that he was part of the gang directly involved in killing Haridasan.
