MD Nidheesh finished what Ahammed Imran started as the Thrissur Titans defeated Trivandrum Royals in a rain-affected Kerala Cricket League match held at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Batting first, Thrissur Titans posted a commanding total of 222/4, powered by a brilliant 98 from Ahammed Imran and a quickfire unbeaten 54 from Arjun AK. However, rain interrupted play and revised Trivandrum’s target to 148 runs in 12 overs, as per the VJD method.
Nidheesh ensured Royals had no chance of recovery, taking three crucial wickets, including that of their top scorer Govind Pai, as Trivandrum was restricted to 136/6 in their 12 overs. With the win, Thrissur climbed to the top of the points table with 8 points in 5 games.
He struck early by dismissing the Royals’ captain and opener, Krishna Prasad, for just 1 run. Riya Basheer and Govind Pai then tried to rebuild with a 66-run partnership, but after Basheer was dismissed for 23, the Royals failed to find momentum.
The Titans bowlers tightened their grip in the death overs, restricting scoring opportunities and sealing a 12-run victory.
Earlier, the Titans were propelled to a massive total helped by Imran’s 98 off 49 balls. He and Anand Krishnan put up a solid 99-run opening partnership, laying a strong foundation for the innings. Imran continued the onslaught, taking the score to 146 before being dismissed.
Arjun then took charge, smashing 54 off just 22 deliveries, which included seven sixes. Shoun Roger also chipped in with a useful 31 runs, taking the team score past 200 runs.
