Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas filed his nomination for the BCCI president's post in Mumbai on Sunday.

The 45-year-old is understood to have emerged as the frontrunner for the post left vacant by Roger Binny last month.

Manhas played 157 first-class matches and also featured in 55 IPL matches in a career that spanned two decades, between 1997 and 2017.

The board's annual general meeting will take place at the headquarters in Mumbai next Sunday.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla told media persons that a news body was being made for the next term.

"Mithun Manhas is a former player, and it was decided to make him the president," Shukla said. "Arun Dhumal is the chairman of the IPL governing council, and he will continue in that position."

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Karnataka State Cricket Association president Raghuram Bhat and Dhumal filed their nomination papers on Sunday.
