Records tumble for Mohammed Azharuddeen in KCL as he becomes first to enter 1,000-run club

Mohammed Azharuddeen etched his name into the history books of the Kerala Cricket League, becoming the first batter to score 1,000 runs in the tournament.

The Aleppey Ripples vice-captain reached the landmark in style, smashing an unbeaten century as his team chased down a target of 214 against Calicut Globstars in a high-scoring thriller.

Azharuddeen remained unbeaten on 112 off just 60 balls as Aleppey secured a six-wicket win with three balls to spare. Calicut had posted 213/5 against which Aleppey finished at 215/4.

The milestone came after Aleppey lost opener Akash Pillai for one and captain Sachin Baby for 19 early in the chase. Azharuddeen, however, held his nerve and took charge of the innings, guiding Aleppey to victory.

The century was Azharuddeen's second of KCL Season 3. In six matches, he has also scored three half-centuries and has amassed 419 runs, making him the leading run-scorer in the tournament this season.
Aries Kollam Sailors' Abhishek J Nair is second on the run charts with 282 runs.

Azharuddeen also leads the six-hitting charts this season with 34 sixes. He tops the tournament's charts for centuries and half-centuries as well.

His rich vein of form has also helped Aleppey Ripples climb to the top of the points table. They have won four of their six matches and have eight points.
