India crashed out of the Sudirman Cup finals following a second defeat in the group stage in Xiamen, China. Team India had lost 1-4 to Denmark in their opener on Monday and lost by the same score to Indonesia on Tuesday.

Olympic medallist P V Sindhu and ace men's singles player H S Prannoy were among those who lost their games. India's only win in the tie came in mixed doubles, where Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto defeated the pair of Rehan Kusharjanto and Gloria Widjaja 10-21, 21-18, 21-19.

Sindhu lost in straight games (12-21, 13-21) to Putri Kusuma Wardani, while Prannoy lost 21-19, 14-21, 12-21 to Jonatan Christie. The women's pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra and the men's doubles team of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi also lost their matches.

India will play England in an inconsequential final group match on Thursday. England lost 5-0 against both Indonesia and Denmark. India's best-ever performance at the Sudirman Cup has been two quarterfinal finishes in 2011 and 2017.

India missed the top women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand. Kerala shuttler Treesa and her partner Gayatri are injured. Ace men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were also not part of the Indian squad.
