India’s ace singles players P V Sindhu and H S Prannoy advanced to the second round of the BWF World Championships in Paris on Tuesday.
Sindhu outwitted World No 69 Bulgaria's Kaloyana Nalbantova 23-21, 21-6, while Prannoy also won in straight games (21-18, 21-15) against Finland's World No 47 Joakim Oldorff in 47 minutes.
Prannoy controlled his rallies in the first game, initially trailing before taking a two-point lead (10-8). Oldorff levelled the game at 16, but Prannoy prevailed.
The Thiruvananthapuram native, who was a bronze medallist at the worlds in 2023, took a 7-4 lead in the second game and maintained the upper hand throughout.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu will next play Thailand's Karupathevan Letshanaa, while Prannoy is likely to take on second seed Anders Antonsen.
