Dubai Hotel
Dubai Hotel at Kumarakom

It is hard to miss the Dubai Hotel while driving down from Kottayam to Kumarakom. One of those wayside eateries, they serve an eclectic spread of food. And it is very economic. It was nearing 8 pm when we walked into the restaurant on a week day and there were just a couple of other patrons. It is definitely not one of those swanky places, but the cordial staff arrived just as we settled in. We were surprised at the ease with which the service staff, who was clearly a North Indian migrant, asked us what we would eat in Malayalam. Since it was our first visit, we asked him for suggestions. Even though the service staff said the duck curry is a hot selling item, we decided to give it a miss. We went in for dal, chapathis and beef dry fry following his advice. The fish here is fresh, with the lakes and the sea close by. We found out that the crabs, during its season, and the prawns delicacies here are very popular in the nearby areas. Soon, the beef dry fry arrived and it was lip-smacking good. A bit on the spicy side, the dish was soft and succulent and went well with the chapatis. We went in for fresh lime soda to polish the food off and decided to give the desserts – the normal fruit salads and ice creams - a miss. Dubai Hotel and Restaurant is not one of those place you go for a relaxed meal. It is one of those functional eateries where you go, eat and move on. **Where?** Opposite Attamangalam Church Kumarakom P.O. Tel no. 0481 2525821
