Who doesn’t love to soak in the enchanting vistas of lush green landscapes shrouded in mist and pouring rain in Kerala's monsoon season? You don’t have to look anywhere else if you’re a pluviophile, as the state turns into a misty paradise with rain-drenched scenery in the season. Quite obviously, the raw charm of the beautiful hamlet of Kallekulam, which has a tapestry of natural riches, goes a notch or two higher with the skies opening up.

What to see?
Kallekulam and Parappanthara, on the banks of the tributary of the Meenachil River, in the Poonjar Thekkekara panchayat, are replete with views that can take your breath away. The main attraction is the milky-white bubbling stream that flows, caressing the burnished rock formations. Kallekulam and Parappanthara, near the Poonjar-Perinkulam road, are rustic places riddled with rocks of different shapes and sizes. When the water level decreases, it is paradisiacal to take a dip in small pools between the rocks. And when there is copious rain, water flows like a gurgling stream, which is a treat for the eyes. The narrow bridge across the water body at Parappanthara evokes nostalgia and is the perfect spot for photo shoots.

How to reach?
Take the Pala-Erattupetta-Poonjar route from Kottayam, and you will reach Kallekulam and Parappanthara after travelling on the Perinkulam road from Poonjar. The distance from Kottayam railway station is 47km.

Things to keep in mind
1) Water level can increase in a jiffy when it’s raining. Keep an eye on the rain forecast.
2) Don’t enter the water body when the water level is alarming.
3) There are no warning boards or safety measures in the area.
4) Walk carefully, as the chances of your leg getting stuck in small cavities in rocks are high.
5) Park vehicles without causing any hindrance, as the area has no designated parking slots.
