Special robots disinfect Air India Express aircraft

In a bid to provide safe air travel during COVID-19 pandemic, the Air India Express has roped in UV-enabled robotic technology to disinfect its aircraft.

The airline sanitized its Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the help of the robotic device fitted with UV (ultraviolet) disinfection lamping system at Delhi airport the other day.

The Air India Express has claimed that it was the first airline in India to use such a technology to disinfect and clean interiors of aircraft.

The UV robots can sanitize all areas that are likely to come in contact with passengers and crew members. The arms of the specially-designed robots are fitted with UV lights to disinfect seats, armrests and windows, among others.

The aircraft are being disinfected in collaboration with ground handling agency Air India SATS. The robotic sanitization will be carried out in airports, including Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram, where Air India SATS provides service.
