Permission has been granted to sell tickets for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race at government offices across various districts of Kerala. The government has permitted the sale of tickets through government offices in the districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Kozhikode. The authorities hope to mint a revenue of at least Rs 1 crore through ticket sales. Meanwhile, this year’s Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be held on August 22. The ticket sales are likely to begin by the last week of July.
Ticket fares would be set by the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society. Last year, ticket prices started at ₹100 for lawn seating. The maximum price was ₹25,000, for the premium Platinum Corner family package. There was also a 'Platinum Corner' Individual ticket that admitted one person with food and special boat transfers, for ₹10,000.
The other seats cost as follows:
a) Tourist Gold (Nehru Pavilion): ₹3,000 (Admit 1 - separate chair with great visibility)
b) Tourist Silver (Nehru Pavilion): ₹2,500 (Admit 1)
c) Rose Corner: ₹1,500 (Admit 1 - separate chair in a concrete pavilion)
d) Victory Lane Wooden Gallery: ₹500 (Admit 1)
e) All View Wooden Gallery: ₹400 (Admit 1)
f) Lake View Gold Wooden Gallery: ₹200 (Admit 1)
This will be the 72nd Nehru Trophy Boat Race.
Last year, Kainakari Village Boat Club's Veeyapuram Chundan won the race, with the Nadubhagam Chundan emerging second. Boat clubs from various parts of Alappuzha and Kottayam have already started preparing for the boat race season. The first boat race for this season, the Champakulam Moolam Boat Race, which is also the oldest in the state, will be held on June 29 on the Pamba River in Alappuzha.
