After the impressive launch of MUV Marazzo, the next product from the Mahindra stable to hit the market is the premium SUV code named Y400. Targeted at a segment that is ruled by the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor and Honda CR-V, the vehicle will be launched this year itself. The vehicle is likely to be named XUV 700. When the second generation Rexton arrives in India as a Mahindra, there could be plenty of changes.
XUV 700 is not Rexton
The vehicle that was first displayed in the New Delhi auto expo in February is based on SsangYong Rexton. Launched as the first product from SsangYong, Rexton did not find many takers which prompted Mahindra to rebadge it. The Mahindra vehicle will be totally different from the Rexton that is sold in global markets. Mahindra claims that it has made several changes that suit the Indian market.
XUV 700 could be equipped with all the features that are common in the premium SUV segment these days. The SUV will be 4.85-metre long, 1.96-metre wide and 1.8 metre tall. The wheelbase is expected to be 2865 mm. If the Rexton sold in global markets is a five-seater, XUV 700 will be a six-seater in India. You can also expect full LED headlamps, hexagonal grille, day-time running lights, LED tail-lamp and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Premium interior
Mahindra is giving much importance to interiors these days. The dashboard and steering wheel have a premium feel. The inside is plush with a 9.2-inch HD touch screen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, 7-inch LCD instrument cluster and cooled seats.
Brute power
The Rexton that was launched in the Indian market had a 2.7-litre engine. But XUV 700 will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which churns out 187 bhp power and 420 Nm torque. Apart from a manual transmission, XUV 700 could have a seven-speed automatic transmission model as well as an all-wheel drive variant. The price could start from Rs 24 lakh.
