Idukki: The Government Engineering College here has revived its women's cell that was dormant for long. The cell, which aims to look into the concerns of women on the campus, also has their overall development as a goal.
Dr Suma C S, the head of the department of basic science, is its coordinator. Arya Vijayan (college chairperson), Hima M S, Smijila P C, and Devika P are its chief executives.
The cell re-organisation was done on October 25 at a meeting held at the college.
"Along with education, we have to develop the courage to stand along with society," Suma noted on the purpose of such a dedicated body.
The cell intends to hold organise quiz competitions, training, dance club, music band, etc.
The cell already organised a self-defence class for girls. Three lady cops, who got training in this essential safety programme from the police academy, Trichur, conducted the session on October 13.
The cops taught the students how to overcome the unpredictable situations like harassments on bus, ATM attacks, robbery, etc. A comprehensive session on self-defence will be conducted soon.
