Idukki: The Government Engineering College here launched a campaign called 'PLASTIC CHALLENGE' ahead of the multinational fest 'Advaya8' to be hosted by it late this month.

The first part of the campaign, which was held in association with the National Service Scheme and the Centre for Empowerment of Local Area, saw the participation of about 50 students.

'PLASTIC CHALLENGE' calls for collecting the maximum plastic within a selected area. The selected area for plastic collection was between the Idukki Collectorate and the Painavu region.

The collected plastic articles were segregated into reusable and non-reusable ones. Reusable ones are used for logo designing of the fest and non-reusable ones are handed over to the panchayath.

Similar drives are held every year as part of the Advaya fest. In the previous years marvellous events dubbed 'Pusthakapura' and 'Ooruvettam' were organised. The former involved setting up libraries for tribal groups and providing electricity in tribal areas.

The college is organising the Advaya fest from March 29 to 31. The annual event is held to enhance technical knowledge of students as well as to enlighten students about social activities.

The NSS president Mohammed Shameem and Advaya coordinators Arya Vijayan, Dhanoop, Kannan, Sujith Raj and Adnan were behind the successful organisation of the Plastic Challenge.
