Bachelor of Design course at IITs: UCEED to be held on Jan 17

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) for the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme will be held on January 17, 2021. 

The IIT-Bombay, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Jabalpur offer BDes programmes.

The last date to send in the applications is October 10. For more details, check the official website http://www.uceed.iitb.ac.in.

There a total of 179 seats for the course. However, this number can change.

Apart from these four institutions, the UCEED score is valid for admission to 21 premier institutes.

All those students who have cleared the plus-two exams in 2020 or will write the exam in 2021 are eligible to apply. Students should be born on or after October 1, 1996. Students from the SC/ST or the differently-abled category have an age relaxation of five years.

The application fee is Rs 3,500.

Girl students in all categories and those from the SC/ST or differently-abled category need to pay only Rs 1750 (service charges extra). 

With a late fee of Rs 500, applications can be submitted till October 17. 

Students will not be allowed to appear for the UCEED for more than two consecutive years.

Exam schedule

The exam will be held from 9 am to 12 noon on January 17.

Questions will be based on visualisation & spatial ability, observation & design sensitivity, environmental & social awareness, analytical & logical reasoning, language & creativity, and design thinking & problem-solving.

Detailed syllabus and the question papers from the last five years are available on the website. The exam results will be out on March 10. The scorecard should be downloaded. This is valid for the next year’s admission as well.

A single application for the BDes programmes to all four institutions should be submitted with a fee of Rs 2,000 between March 11 to 31.

CEED for MDes, PhD

The Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) for Master of Design (MDes) and PhD Programmes will also be held on January 17. Interested students should apply within October 10 by registering for the exam on www.ceed.iitb.ac.in. With a late fee of Rs 500, applications can be submitted till October 17.

The application fee is Rs 3,200. Women in any category and those from the SC/ST and differently-abled category need to pay only Rs 1600. The IIT Bombay will conduct the exam. The results will be out on March 8.

Apart from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Hyderabad, and IIITDM Jabalpur, the CEED score is valid for admission to 12 premier institutions. The score is valid for one year. 

However, this is the only eligibility for admission. Students will have to apply to each institution when the admission process commences.

Eligibility: After plus-two, the candidate must have completed a three-year UG degree/diploma/PG degree. Students, whose final exam will be held only by July 2021, can also apply.

Those who have completed the five-year GD arts diploma after class 10 can also apply. No age limit. Also, no limit on the number of attempts.
