New Delhi: Knowledge shared is knowledge squared. Considering this maxim, the University Grants Commission has allowed appointment of experts in their respective fields to higher educational institutions as ‘Professors of Practice’ without considering their educational qualification.

Those who are well known in the field of engineering, science, media, literature, fine arts, entrepreneurship, social sciences, civil service and defence forces can conduct classes. However, they should have proved their talent or expertise in the respective fields for at least 15 years.

The universities and higher educational institutions can invite these faculty specialties for conducting special classes or sessions.

In the initial stage, the appointment would be for a year. The UGC also instructed that the universities shouldn’t appoint such experts in more than 10% posts that have been allowed.
