New Delhi: The number of candidates registering for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) or JEE (Advanced) for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) has risen.
Of the 2.5 lakh candidates who have cleared the JEE (Main) this year, 1.9 lakh (76 per cent) have registered for the JEE (Advanced), according to the IIT Guwahati, which is responsible for the conduct of the examination.
Last year, 1.6 lakh candidates had registered for the JEE (Advanced). Of the total registrations this year, 1.46 candidates are boys and 44,000 are girls.
The number of applicants under the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) categories has also risen. This year it has shot up to 800 from last year's 396. The rise in the total number from these categories could have been due to the relaxation in norms by which IIT aspirants can directly appear for the JEE (Advanced) without clearing the Main.
The JEE (Advanced) has been scheduled for June 4.
