Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to increase the number of Plus One seats in the state.

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase 30% seats in government schools at Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts. In government-aided schools, seats would be increased by 20%.

The Cabinet also announced that 81 additional batches will be introduced next academic year.

The minister had announced that additional seats would be added this year too to ensure all eligible students get entry to Plus One courses.

The Cabinet announcement should bring cheer to the northern districts which have reported an acute shortage of Plus One seats, especially after record SSLC results.

Around 3.85 lakh students are likely to get Plus One admission this year.
