Actress attack case has besmirched the reputation of film industry: Mamta

Actress Mamta Mohandas on Wednesday said that actor Dileep’s arrest in connection with the actress attack case was a blot on the escutcheon of Malayalam cinema.

“The incident has besmirched the reputation of film industry. Everybody who is working in the industry is going to be affected by it,” said Mamta.

“It’s a shame. The whole case was something that could have been resolved within the four walls of a room. But hatred and ego have messed up everything.’’

Talking about AMMA and Women’s collective, Mamta said, “I support every association. The people who are part of it should have felt a need for it. But I am not part of any association. I am neither for nor against any such initiatives.”

Dileep and Mamta have acted together in Passenger, Arike, My Boss and Two Countries. The duo had been one of the favorite on-screen couple in Mollywood and their chemistry often guaranteed blockbusters at the box office.

Actor Dileep was arrested by the police on Monday in connection with the abduction and assault of a young actress in Kochi on February 17. Dileep had undergone a marathon 13-hour grilling at the Aluva police club days ahead of his arrest. The actor had approached the police saying that the prime accused, Pulsar Suni, tried to blackmail him from jail. Things went awry for Dileep after the police found discrepancies in his statements.
