Idhu Namma Aalu movie review: Exes and whys

To write anything about Pandiraj's Idhu Namma Aalu needs a rethinking of the category this movie falls under and adding a few adjectives in parentheses on the sides like 'boorish' and 'lousy' just as a forewarning. It's unbelievable how the man behind Pasanga failed miserably when faced with matters of the heart; the story has disastrous characterizations and alarming messages for all prospective lovers.

So instead of a long drawn out review, let's cut to the chase.

The lead hero's introduction comes after a disoriented speech on the lives of IT employees, the reason for which is unknown.

Shiva (Simbu), an IT employee, is the protagonist with Soori for a sidekick who keeps angling for hilarity, most of which end up grating on an already numb nerve. Hero gears up for a 'ponnupakkal' or that awkwardly arranged scenario of boy-meeting-girl in the presence of hordes of people to decide whether they would want to coexist. The girl, Myla (Nayanthara) and the prospective groom then take a look back at the failed romances of the groom, and what happens thereafter become the rather disjointed story.

A story that in no way offers anything new, Idhu Namma Aalu struggles to make a connect with the audience. Ex-woman Andrea Jeremiah walks in to complicate things further and emotive elements make for an incoherent bubble.

As for actors, thanks to the drab screenplay, Simbu is dull, Nayathara looks troubled. On the other hand, if you're the one who gets tickled by the most splintered collection of Simbu references, you will at least enjoy those bits.

Idhu Namma Aalu with its confused ideas of love and relationships, is that bad scramble that can't quite be served.
