Idli enjoys a prime spot on the breakfast menu for Keralites. And Ramassery Idli from Palakkad gave it an all new look and flavour, taking the taste quotient a notch higher. Add some spicy chammanthi podi and your breakfast would be a lip-smacking affair.

Idli fest

Now, here's some good news for ardent fans of the Ramassery Idli. Those living along the southern end of the state do not have to go all the way to Palakkad to get hold of the famed Idli. You can instead head to the open garden restaurant at the Muscat Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has set up an idli fest at the Muscat Hotel. Those in Thiruvananthapuram can get to taste two varieties of the good old idli – Ramassery and Kancheepuram. The fest is being held from October 4 to October 8 at the Sayahna Garden Restaurant of the Muscat Hotel. The fest is from 3pm to 10pm.

The Kancheepuram idli is a speciality from our neighbour Tamil Nadu. These idlis are made on leaves and hence combine the goodness of the plant too. They even smell different and are packed with nutrients.

At the fest, experts prepare both varieties of the idli. Along with these, the fest also offers Sayahna filter coffee, different varieties of milk shakes, and ice cream.

There is also the take-away option.
