Ginger and garlic are common ingredients in most Indian and Asian recipes. Peeling the paper-like skin of ginger and garlic can be irritating and time-consuming, and not always easy to do with our busy lifestyles. A good number of households resort to buying ginger-garlic paste packets from shops and use them as per the daily requirement. Now you can prepare ginger-garlic paste at home and store it without getting spoiled. This extremely useful time-saving hack was shared on the Instagram page ‘Tayees Vlogs’.

Here's how to go about it. Peel the ginger and garlic cloves and put them in a mixer jar. It’s ideal to take half the quantity of ginger when compared to garlic. Put a teaspoon of salt in a pan and roast the same. Add the salt and turmeric powder into the mixer jar and switch it on. You can stop and restart the mixer a couple of times and the mix will have ground well. Pour one teaspoon of sunflower oil into it and grind again. Now you have a versatile ginger-garlic paste that you can use in various curry recipes and other dishes.

The homemade paste thus prepared will not have any change in smell or texture, even after days. They won’t get spoiled for up to one month at normal temperature as well. And you can use them for a whole year if you store them in the fridge. The addition of turmeric powder, salt, and oil is to extend the shelf life of the ginger-garlic paste. One thing you should ensure is to use only a dry spoon to take the paste from the jar. One can also prepare the paste by taking an equal amount of ginger and garlic cloves.
