Punjab-style dal makhani

Dal makhani is a very popular Punjabi dish that is loaded with the goodness of fresh butter. This rich and creamy dish tastes spectacular with chapathi, roti, and rice. Check out the recipe.

Ingredients
1 cup black gram
¼ cup kidney beans
2 tbsp butter
1 onion (finely chopped)
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 cup tomato puree (made from 2 tomatoes)
½ tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
¼ tsp garam masala
¼ tsp cumin powder
Salt as required
¼ cup heavy/fresh cream
Chopped coriander leaves

Preparation
Soak the black gram and kidney beans for at least 8 hours
Pressure cook them until four whistles
Separate this into two parts
Grind one part of this dal mix into thick paste
Keep them aside to be used later
Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan
Sauté the onions, ginger and garlic pastes and tomato puree
Add the Kashmiri chilli powder, cumin powder and garam masala
Sauté well
Now add the boiled dal and kidney beans and the dal paste as well
Pour water as required
Mix well
Cook for half an hour on simmer until the gravy thickens up
Turn of the flame and add ¼ cup heavy or fresh cream
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
Add a dollop of butter before serving the dish
Enjoy with chapathi or fragrant jeera rice.
