Classic wheat puttu and kadala curry

Soft and fluffy wheat puttu and delicious Bengal gram curry is a nutritious and filling breakfast combo. Check out the pretty simple recipes of puttu and Bengal gram curry.

Wheat puttu
Ingredients
½ cup wheat flour
2 tbsp boiled rice
¼ tsp fenugreek powder
Salt as required
1 cup grated coconut
Preparation
Take the wheat flour, boiled rice, salt and fenugreek powder in a mixer jar
Blend them in small pulses
Fill this powder in a puttu kutty (cylindrical puttu steamer)
Cook in steam.

Bengal gram curry
Ingredients
1 cup Bengal gram (soaked overnight)
Salt as required
3 cups water
1 onion
1 tomato
½ tbsp pepper powder
1 tbsp chicken masala
½ cup grated coconut
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
Chopped garlic
Coriander powder
2 tbsp chopped ginger
1 onion
5 -6 shallots
Curry leaves
5 -6 green chillies
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp chicken masala
1 tomato
1 tsp fennel seeds
Preparation
Pressure cook the Bengal gram with salt, onion, tomato, pepper powder and chicken masala in 3 cups water until 2 -3 whistles
Grind half cup cooked Bengal gram with half cup grated coconut
Keep it aside to be used later
Heat coconut oil in a pan
Splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds
Sauté garlic, ginger, onion, shallots, curry leaves and green chillies
Now add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and chicken masala
Sauté until the raw smell of the powders is gone
Into it add the tomato
Cook well until the tomato turns nice and mushy
Add the cooked Bengal gram and the grinded paste
Cook until the gravy boils
Finally, sprinkle the fenugreek powder
Serve the steaming hot puttu with tasty and spicy kadala curry.
