Recently, a young man lost his life in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district after he accepted a bizarre challenge to eat 50 eggs. 42 year old Subash Yadav and his friend decided on a challenge of Rs 2000 for eating 50 eggs. Subash ate 41 eggs and just when he started eating the 42nd egg he collapsed and fell unconscious. Though he was rushed to the nearby hospital, Subash’s life couldn’t be saved. The doctors said that Subash may have died due to overeating eggs in one go. Dr. MT Gopinatha Pillai, after analyzing the various news reports of this case says that the exact reason for Subash’s death could not be said. However, he assumes a few possibilities and gives information about the food that we eat and how it affects the digestive process.
Over eating and digestion
The body cannot receive the food that we eat as it is. The food is digested and broken into nutrients which are then assimilated into the body. Proper digestion would take place only if your stomach is half empty. In Subash’s case, the digestive process may have severely disrupted as he stuffed himself with eggs. It must have harmfully affected the functioning of the lungs and the heart. Dr. Gopinatha Pillai assumes that all these factors may have led to a fatal cardiac arrest in Subash’s case.
Though egg is rich in protein and other nutrients, consuming too many eggs may not be good for your health. The egg yolk contains lots of cholesterol, which consumed in large quantities, may shoot the cholesterol levels. This may even lead to heart attack and other heart related ailments. The level of cholesterol may rise alarmingly if more than one or two eggs are consumed in a day.
