Know what makes this Kerala septuagenarian still active and energetic

Purushothaman

How do you manage to remain energetic at the age of 78? Simple. Do what you love. At least that’s the answer P Purushothaman gives you. He loves offering physical education training to kids. That is also his job. Neither is he a professional player nor has he learned any course. This is a profession he has chosen with a lot of love and also makes sure he keeps himself fit to sustain himself here.

While training children, there are a few things he likes to share with them. Keep your body strong, drink lots of water and on time, sleep, and also learn to prepare yourself mentally to fight injuries. Purushothaman also follows this dictum while training them. His exercise includes starting the training at 6 am every day. “After the morning exercise, we will feel hungry and thirsty. If we are able to satisfy that in a healthy way, we will be happy and healthy,” he says.

Purushothaman who started training children, from the time PT Usha was in her prime, hails from Kappad in Kannur. He started training the kids of his village as he wanted them to have the same stamina and power as children belonging to hilly terrain. For the last ten years, he has been assisting the physical education teachers at Ancharakandi Higher Secondary School.

His sporting achievements ranged from winning a medal at the veteran's meet in 1993 at the age of 48 to winning gold in the over-75 category at the 2020 state masters meet. His family consists of his wife Chandrika Thiruvorathu and daughters, T Sheena and T Reena.
