Soldier killed in Pakistani firing

Srinagar: An Indian soldier was killed on Thursday as the Pakistan Army resorted to "unprovoked" firing on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the Pakistanis violated the 2003 ceasefire in Machil sector, starting at 10.45 a.m.

The Pakistanis used automatics and mortar shells. A civilian house was damaged in the Pakistan shelling in Kamalkote area.

"Our troops retaliated effectively and strongly. One of our soldiers was martyred in the Pakistani firing," he said.

Two soldiers were injured on Wednesday in Pakistani firing in Uri sector of Baramulla district.

Meanwhile in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri at around 4:30 pm today, two Border Security Force (BSF) jawans got injured. One jawan succumbed to injuries, the other jawan is being treated at hospital.
