Palakkad: The sad tale of how Kerala nurse Lini attended to Nipah-affected patients before she herself succumbed to the viral disease has touched many a souls in both Kerala and outside. Several good souls are coming forward to help the bereaved family, especially her sons - two-year-old Siddharth and five-year-old Rithul.

Authorities of Avitis Institute of Medical Sciences in Nemara, Palakkad, have said that they would fund the educational expenses of the little children from this academic year till professional degree or post graduation. Abu Dhabi residents Jyothy Palat and Shanthi Pramod are executive directors of the institute. They will give the official documents in this regard to the family soon.

The institute's director Jyothy Palat said that she had come to know about Lini's death from media reports . "She laid down her life for the cause of humanity and every Keralite would remember this with pride. We have decided to extend a helping hand to the little children who do not even understand the gravity of the loss," Palat said.

At least 11 people have so far lost their lives to the Nipah fever in the northern districts of Kozhikode and Malappuram. It is feared that the viral fever has its origin from bats that were found in an unused well belonging to a Perambra family who became the first victims of the deadly infection. Lini had attended to three members of the family. Before succumbing to the illness, Lini had written a heart-moving letter to her husband that was widely seen on social media.
