Kanhangad: A woman belonging to Uttar Pradesh gave birth to a baby in an auto-rickshaw here. Zerina, wife of Muhammed Moosa, a native of the northern state living at Padanna in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, experienced labour pains in the middle of the night recently. She was taken immediately in an auto from her house to a hospital at Kanhangad.

However, when the auto reached the overbridge at Padannakkad, Zerina’s pain intensified and at Ayngoth, the vehicle was parked on the roadside. Local residents learnt about the plight of Zerina and they informed the district hospital. Driver of ‘108’ ambulance M Mithun along with staff nurse Simy Thomas rushed to the spot where the auto was parked and attended to the woman in labour.

Zerina gave birth soon after in the auto and both the mother and baby are safe and healthy, said doctors.
