Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 3,404 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday after testing 56,580 samples, taking its Test Positivity Rate (TPR) to 6.01 per cent.

After 4,145 more recover from the infection, the number active patients in the state reached 34,171 . Among them, only 8 per cent are admitted to hospitals currently.

The active cases dropped below 35,000 for the first time after more than eight months. The active cases in Kerala was at 36,185 on April 9, 2021 and went on an upward spiral since then as the second wave of COVID-19 spread rapidly across the state.

COVID fatalities reached 43,946, after 284 previously undocumented deaths and 36 recent ones were added to the list, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

The state has reported 52,07,826‬‬ COVID-19 cases so far. Of them, 51,29,044 recovered.

Of the positive cases, 27 were health workers, while eight had come from outside the state and 3,170 infected through contact. The source of infection of 199 among them is unknown.

Vaccination and quarantine
Till Friday, 97 per cent (2,59,39,073) of the eligible adult population in Kerala has been given one dose of COVID-19 vaccine while 72.6 per cent (1,94,01,141) received both the doses.

As of now, a total of 1,47,204 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 1,43,110 are under home or institutional quarantine while 4,094 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 206 people were admitted in hospitals on Wednesday.
