Kannur: A passenger was brutally assaulted by a police officer here on the Maveli Express for travelling without a ticket in the sleeper coach.

The visuals of the cop slapping and kicking the young man have gone viral on social media. The hapless youth was thrown out of the sleeper compartment at Vadakara station.

The conduct of the cop, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Kannur Railway Station, has shocked people who saw the footage.

The ASI, who reached the sleeper compartment for a routine check, asked the passenger for his ticket. When the man replied that he possessed only a general ticket, he was asked to produce one. The cop then assaulted him.

The incident occurred soon after the Mangalore Central to Trivandrum Central Maveli Express left the Kannur station on Monday.

The visuals were captured by another passenger apparently occupying an upper berth.
